Daisies in February

My niece's birthday was this week, so I created a springy looking card for her.  The papers, chipboard, and rub-ons are all from Imaginisce. 

I layered the daisy paper over top of the polka dot paper.  I also used a Martha Stewart punch on the polka dot paper to create the strip near the center.  Using EK punches, I adhered the circular scalloped piece on top of the punched strip.  A chipboard flower was placed in the certer and a tag stamped with a Rubber Soul sentiment and an orange bow was set off to the side.

Next, I decided to play around with the envelope.  Using a Martha Stewart punch, I punched two daisy shapes from the polka dot paper, attached another Imaginisce chipboard flower to the center, and placed it it the left-hand corner.  Isn't the rub-on row of mushrooms across the bottom so cute?  Then, with another Martha Stewart punch, I attached two butterflies embellished with Recollections rhinestones.  A little orange heart dots the "i" in her name.

I hope to be back again later this weekend with a winter card.  Today is almost like spring here.  Quite unusual for this time of the year.  As you may know, I love winter but the season this year is not living up to its name (much to most people's liking!).  Have a wonderful weekend and, as always, thanks for stopping by.

One Last Valentine Project

Just popping in to share one more Valentine project before the official day tomorrow.  I was able to find another wooden heart-shaped doily to alter similar to the one in the previous post.  This time, I painted it white and then just used my fingertip to dap on some color to the rose and leaves.  I used pink Liquid Pearls to outline the heart shape.  Using some ribbon scraps, I made two bows, sewed them together with a heart-shaped button and glued it to the upper left side.  The Be Mine ticket is from K&Co that I attached with some thin satin ribbon.  I used the same ribbon to tie the little Recollections charm to the bottom of the heart as well as to make a loop to hang the heart.   Of course, I couldn't let it be without adding some Martha Stewart glitter to the whole thing!

Valentine Projects

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I thought I'd better get moving and make a few things.  First up is this card I made using a scrap of polka dot paper from my stash.  I also came across an unopened pack of K & Co die-cut cardstock with the sweetest Victorian images like this cute little cherub, roses, envelope and sentiment.  The Royal Lace doily was spritzed with Tattered Angels S.W.A.K. mist.  The rhinestone swirls are from Me & My Big Ideas.  I added a touch of Stickles to the roses and adhered them as well as the cherub with foam adhesive.

On a recent trip to my local AC Moore, I came across a wooden heart-shaped doiley with a rose image cut through (not sure what the correct terminology is for this technique).  I gave it a couple of coats of different color paints.  I hot glued buttons from Making Memories around the edge.  The cherub was on a stick that I saved from an arrangement of flowers I received from my son last Valentine's Day.  It was originally gold, so I removed the stick portion and gave it a coat of white paint and distressed it with a bit of brown ink.  The envelope is from K & Co, pink felt heart is from Making Memories, and the little heart charm hanging at the bottom is from Recollections.  A bit of lace was attached for hanging and then a generous coat of Martha Stewart glitter was applied.

My son asked if he could have this to give to someone.  I told him I would make another one since this one is sentimental to me because of the cherub and it is the only one I had.  I took a trip to AC Moore yesterday and found some more of these hearts as well as the cutest heart-shaped trinket box.  Looks like I'm on a roll!  Nothing like coming down to the wire!  Hopefully, you will see them here soon!

It Worked! and His and Her Birthday Cards

Well, my thoughts of snow finally worked!  We awoke to about 2-1/2 inches of snow topped with a layer of ice on Saturday morning.  It's still pretty well frozen today; however, tomorrow is expected to be in the 50s, so it will soon disappear.

Snow always inspires me to bake; so while I waited for a batch of peppermint sugar cookies to bake, I made this card for a friend's birthday.  I don't usually like to make masculine cards; but when I saw this line from My Mind's Eye, I had to give it a try.

The only things not from My Mind's Eye are the kraft cardstock base from Recollections and the twine.  I love the die-cut banner and celebrate wood pennant.  The tickets are part of their die-cut borders and the green polka dot Don't Forget is a sticker.  I used foam popup adhesive stickers under the star banner and celebrate wooden pennant.  There is some fun circle garland that is part of this collection that I'm anxious to use on something else.

This is another first for me--making my own envelope.  I used a sheet of Recollections kraft cardstock and my Martha Stewart scoring board.  I was surprised how easy it was (as long as you don't press too hard!).  I had fun playing with the matching stamps to this line of paper.  I adhered a layered sticker to the ribbon (?) in the upper corner.  Ink used was Ranger Distress Ink in Forest Moss.

 Last Sunday, I spent some time crafting with my SIL Anabelle.  She generously allowed me to use some of her supplies, so I made this birthday card for another sister-in-law whose birthday is this week.

The pattern paper, chipboard label, swirl, butterfly and certificate stickers are all Prima.  The twill, button and stamped sentiment are Papertrey Ink.  I love how this turned out.  The patterns are so pretty in person.

Thoughts of Snow

So far this season, we've only had a dusting of snow or some flurries.  I love me some snow, although I don't want to drive around in it!  With these thoughts, I had to create my own "snow."  I found a pad of My Mind's Eye Christmas papers in my stash from who knows how long ago, but I wish I had looked at it sooner.  The papers are all so gorgeous! 

I decided to alter another makeup container and make a matching card.

The papers already have a nice glittered texture.  I used a Martha Stewart snowflake border punch and a snowflake punch.  I adhered the patterned papers to Bazzill teal cardstock.  I also used some shabby seam binding from Deb's Simple Treasures, pom-pom trim and twine from AC Moore, a teal button, the snowflake and a tag stamped with "let it snow" from Belinda Landtroop.

The container was difficult to work with as it is so tiny.  I used more of the same paper and trims but also added an Anna Griffin snowflake sticker, snowflake button and a tiny silver bell.  Of course, both the card and the box received a coating of Martha Stewart glitter.

My First Altered Shabby Container

A couple of blogs I frequently stalk such as Melissa Phillips, Anabelle O'Malley, Audrey Pettit and Cherry's Jubilee (see links on sidebar) show the most gorgeous altered items.  I decided to try to give it a try myself.  I love that vintage, shabby look.  I have a whole new appreciation for the work it takes to make these.  I also realized that when working with hot glue you need to work fast!  Here is what I made.  It is by no means perfect, but I know what not to do the next time. 

The container I used was an empty Philosophy facial moisturizer pads box.  I covered in with K&Co Life's Journey papers and a Martha Stewart adhesive diecut on top.  The flower is Prima and the tag is stamped with a PTI sentiment.  The seam binding came from a vendor at the CK Valley Forge Convention and the pearls are from Joann Fabrics.  The lace, buttons, and metal tags were a birthday gift for me.  I used several shades of Tim Holtz alcohol ink to tone down the gold edge around the pearl button in the center of the flower.  Spray adhesive and Martha Stewart coarse glitter finished it off.

Happy 2012

Happy 2012! I wish the best for everyone in this new year.  I hope you had a happy break.  We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday.  The first couple of days were busy but so enjoyable with family and friends.  Some time was spent crafting a couple of things I never tried before--tags and containers.  It was so much fun!

Today, I have a card and tag set that I made for a sweet friend.  This is the first time I ever tried decorating a tag.  I've seen some beautiful ones on various blogs and wanted to give it a try.

Papers used here are K&Co Julianne line.  I bought the 6x6 size pad that had 96 sheets--I think it is going to last a lifetime! 

I used a Martha Stewart punch to make the decorative strip of paper.  I love this flower that was given to me as well as the trim.  A PTI stamp was used on the tag.

I handcut the flowers from the paper, attached them with foam adhesive and added a touch of Ranger Stickles.  The cream flower is from Recollections and the stamp from PTI.  Finished it off with a hemp bow and a piece of twill.  The edges were inked with antique linen Distress Ink.

It is a bit overcast here, so I haven't had a chance to photograph the container I made.  Hopefully, I'll be able to share it over the weekend.  Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments!
