Rainy Day

Today is one of those days where you just feel like being a bit lazy.  Since it's been rainy, there isn't anything to do outdoors.  The past week was very busy for me, so I do enjoy this lazy day.  I did manage to squeeze in making a birthday card for my Mom whose birthday is next weekend.

Everything used on this card is from Webster's Pages.  I had some random pieces of scraps that I put together here.  I love the soft peachy/pink color with the touch of lime green.  Certainly brightens up a rainy day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Nothing like getting a Mother's Day post up when the day is almost over!  I do hope all Moms and Moms-to-Be had a wonderful day.  After a rainy Saturday, today was picture perfect.  I spent the morning with my parents and the afternoon with my husband's family.  We had a great time.

I made this tag and gift container for my Mom.  I love that shabby, old-fashioned look.  (My son asked if the woman on the tag was one of his aunts.  I said she is no where near that old!  But she does resemble her a bit.)

A piece of K&Co paper was aged a bit with Distress Ink in Antique Linen and Tea Dye and then glued onto a kraft tag.  I just had to give it a coat of Martha Stewart glitter.  The Wilton doily was also given a light coat of Distress Ink.  Don't you love that adorable vintage image?  I got it from Pinterest.  The rose flower border and charms are Recollections.  A coat of Glossy Accents and glitter was added to the Prima flowers.  The delicate lacy butterfly is Martha Stewart.  A piece of tea-stained twill from Melissa Phillips finishes the tag.

The container was made with pretty much the same items such as the paper and flowers.  The butterfly used here is Recollections and the leaves are Prima.  The key charm is Tim Holtz and the heart charm is Bead Landing.  The lace is from Simplicity and was given a coat of Sand Glimmer Mist to tone down the white color.  I also tucked in a few vintage buttons around the lid edge.

The butterfly, unfortunately, doesn't show up too well in these photos.

For You

It's a beautiful spring day here, and I've spent it spring cleaning!  I did manage to get in a nice walk this morning and enjoyed the nice, crisp breeze.  We had a bit of a scare over the weekend.  I noticed that my elderly neighbor (the one I mentioned in last week's post) had not taken in her newspaper or opened the curtains on her window, which is something she always does.  At first, I thought she went to her daughter's for the weekend.  Something just kept nagging at me, so I asked neighbor who lives next door to her if she knew whether she was home.  Fortunately, she had the woman's daughter's phone number but she lives about a half hour away.  The police and ambulance came and got in her house.  At first, they thought she had a stroke.  As it turns out, she had gone into diabetic shock.  I just mention this because I think it is important to watch out for any neighbor who lives alone even if they are self sufficient.  Thank goodness, she is fine.

On a lighter note, I have been working on projects for Mother's Day.  One of my aunts recently gave me some crocheted doilies she never finished as well as some old pieces of jewelry.  She thought I might be able to use them on projects.  So, this set is for her since she is also my godmother.

The card and box were made using Webster's Pages papers, fabric ribbon (Hollywood Vogue), and push pin.  I cut apart one of the doilies and glued it to the top of the container which used to hold moisturizer.  The black beads are from a bracelet that was in the bag of jewelry from my aunt.

The crocheted edge did not go entirely around the lid, so I glued a black satin bow to cover that space.  The flower and leaves are from Recollections.  I tucked in some fronds made from a Martha Stewart punch that were spritzed with gold and silver Glimmer Mist around the flower.  Here is a closer look.

Next up is a card to go along with the box.  Another Martha Stewart punch was used for the doily border, and a strip of Simplicity lace really adds an elegant touch.  The jeweled center of the white Recollections flower is from the same bracelet as the beads used on the container.  A couple of fronds and a push pin are tucked around the flower.  I don't have a stamp that says "For You" but I did have one that said "For Your Thoughtfulness."  I simply just inked the "For You" part and stamped that on the tag.  The strip of pearls are Recollections.

April Birthdays

Another week has passed and what a week it has been!  My thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by the terrible events in Boston and the Midwest this week.  I also received sad news that one of the doctors I work for over the past seventeen years lost his wife this week and also an elderly neighbor I've known for twenty-five years has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Words sometimes are so inadequate at times like this--I never know what to say.  Being there for people and prayer are the best you can do.  Needless to say, I am glad the week is over and hope the week ahead is much better.

Recently, my sweet sister-in-law and her dear son celebrated their birthdays just days apart; so I made two quite different style cards.

I love the aqua and white color combination.  The background paper is just a piece of leftover scrap, so I'm not sure of the company.  I used a Martha Stewart punch on some white cardstock.  I stamped script text onto another piece of paper and placed that on top of the lace-edged paper.  The pretty butterfly and white flower are Prima, the small white and aqua flowers are Offray, pearl swirls are Recollections, lace bow is from Celebrate It, PTI sentiment is used on the banner, and the stickpin was made by me.  I don't know where I got the random crystals from.

A completely feminine card is much easier for me to make!  Next one is totally different.

The card base was made from Recollections kraft cardstock.  Papers used are October Afternoon, Webster's and Farm House.  A bit of baker's twine was wrapped around the card.  The pennants, gumball machine, cross stitch border and 5 cent stickers are all October Afternoon.  I finished it off with birthday stamped at the bottom.

Pixie Card

After a rainy, chilly Friday, the weekend has been seasonably beautiful!  We spent yesterday with family and friends celebrating my one brother-in-law's early retirement and another brother-in-law achieving his doctorate.  It was so nice to spend time with everyone and especially those we don't get to see that often.

The card I am sharing today was made for a co-worker's little eight-year-old daughter who recently won a couple of art contests in the county.  The image is called Pixie Lucy by C. C. Designs (given to me by a sweet blogging friend, ReNae Allen) that I stamped onto white cardstock and then punched it out with an EK punch.  Copic markers were used to color Lucy and a bit of glitter glue and Liquid Pearls were added for highlights.  Lace from Webster's Pages was attached to the bottom of a glittered DCWV premade card.  I then added the image and some Petaloo flowers spritzed with Glimmer Mist.  The sentiment was stamped onto a Martha Stewart tag.  As a final touch, a Prima butterfly with a couple of Recollections rhinestones was added to the lower corner.

Quick Cards

Hi Everyone!  I think we may be skipping spring and going right into summer.  We've had some chilly weather since the official start of spring, but the temperatures are supposed to soar to 80 degrees by mid-week.  But, by the weekend, we will be 20 degrees cooler.  Crazy weather!  I did clean by window screens and popped them in this weekend since I know the windows will need to be opened this week.

Recently, I needed two quick cards to send to friends I haven't heard from in awhile.  Plus, I like to give the postal service business.  With the advent of email, facebook, texting, etc., sending cards and letters are almost a thing of the past.  I, for one, love to get "happy mail"!  Anyway, these two cards were quick and simple.

Both cards use the same blue cardstock base.  I first stamped leaves randomly with a stamp from Heidi Grace.  The flowers and Prima (love them!) and the butterfly is K&Co.  A hello stamp finished this one.

For the next card, I used EK punches on K&Co paper.  Platinum liquid pearls outline the circular shape.  I spritzed the yellow Prima flowers with Sand Glimmer Mist to tone them down.  Pearls are Recollections.

Happy Belated Easter

I had intended to get this post up yesterday; but needless to say, the weekend was very busy.  After church on Easter morning, we spent the day with family and had a wonderful time.  Even though we were going to be out on Easter, I spent the day before doing traditional Easter activities like coloring eggs, baking a cake, making potato salad to take to Easter dinner, and, finally, making an Easter card.  Sad to say, it is the only one I made for the holiday.  But I did make a birthday card for a dear nephew that I'll share another time.  Here is my lone Easter card.

I fell in love with this vintage image that Inger Harding used on a gift bag she shared on her blog.  The image came from her Pinterest page where she has pinned many beautiful vintage images.  I simply glued the image to a piece of DCWV cardstock that I then attached to a pre-made Recollections card.  I tied a piece of soft green seam binding around the card and adhered a Recollections flower to the bow.  A strip of Recollections self-adhesive lace was added down the left side and some pearls from Jolee finished it off.
